Récemment, Ardent Pêche nous a confié un magnifique moulinet automatique, le Bold de Thinkfish. Notre collaborateur Jacky Gaillard s’en est emparé immédiatement, séduit par la beauté de l’engin !
« On dirait un emballage de chez Apple » dixit ma fille Fanny en apercevant la boite du thinkfish. La boite est d’un noir mat sur laquelle est imprimée la photo du moulinet cent pour cent aluminium coté pile et coté face. A l’intérieur tout est bien foutu, le manuel, la housse, les symboles comme le petit poisson et la mouche avec son titre « Time to Fly« . Je sors le Bold de son écrin, il est professionnel, design et très léger c’est un bel objet.
Comme je partais le lendemain pour l’Islande, je file chez Pierre Affre le Cousteau de la pêche pour qu’il me mette du backing et y relie ma soie de 7, « Max #7 Line » texte gravé sur un des supports aluminium de la bobine. Je décide de couper quelques mètres de soie pour mettre un maximum de backing, en rêvant du gros saumon qui… Incroyable, le moulinet absorbe prés de 120 mètres de backing, un record pour un petit moulinet.
Quelque jours plus tard sur la Strora Laxa, le moulinet tourne vite c’est un saumon de 8 livres, la soie disparait dans l’eau, je serre le frein qui très progressif, arrête le saumon après 20 mètres de backing. Lentement je commence à pomper comme un pêcheur au gros en baissant et remontant la canne tout en pressant la poignée pour rembobiner la soie. Tout est bien foutu, si j’essaye de me servir de la poignée du moulinet pour forcer le saumon, le moulinet débraye afin d’éviter de malmener le mécanisme. En dix jours j’ai relâché une quinzaine de saumons. En octobre je vais essayer le Bold sur le bonefish et le tarpon « vamos a ver« , Bold va voir du pays, on ne se quitte plus. « It looks like Apple packaging » said my daughter Fanny as she was looking at the Thinkfish box. The box was made of an élégant matte black on which a picture the aluminium reel was printed both sides. Inside the box it was terrific ! The instruction manual, a pouch, the symbols as the little fish and the fly and the motto « Time to Fly». I pull out the Bold from its box, its amazingly light, beautiful and feels very professional, its an awesome reel !
As I was leaving the next day for Iceland, I rushed to my friend’s Pierre Affre (he is to fishing what Jacques Cousteau is to diving…) so he puts on the backing and the line, «Max Line # 7» as engraved on one of the sides of the aluminium spool. I decided to shorten the line of several meters so I can load a maximum of backing, dreaming of big salmons who would… Amazing ! I reeled in nearly 400 ft of backing, a record for such a reel !!
A few days later on the Stora Laxa, the reel spins fast, it’s an 8 pound salmon. The line deappears in the water, I set the drag, which stoppssmoothly the salmon after 20 meters of backing. SLowly as a blue water fisherman would do, I pulled up and « pump » the fish out, lifting the rod as I would press the handle to reel in the line. Everything is top notch ! If I try to use the handle to force the fish, the mechanism releases automaticaly so I don’t break anything. I ten days, I released around fifteen salmons. In October, I will try the Bold on mexican bonefish and tarpons !!! «Vamos a ver», my Bold and I are a couple now, this reel is going to travel hard ! I’ll keep you posted !
