[READ IN ENGLISH] Bon, d’accord.

Well, O.K. The Ardeche is not British Columbia. LaBaume, my lovely, beloved river is not in Belize or Slovenia, not Cuba nor New Zeland. But, what do you want, as far as I’m concerned (I live there 6 months of the year), it’s a marvel. I don’t have to tell you, again, about Ardeche’s divine sausages and hams, about the wild mushrooms, the sunniness or the wildness of the countryside.  Nor about the marvelous accent of the natives (in five volumes of Provencal, one volume for the Massif Central alone). Well, all of that is well known. What I want to tell you about is the pure beauty of it’s creeks and rivers.OK, it’s true that I’m not a specialist on the subject, I’m not even a good fisherman. If you want to know the truth, I’m just a lover of water, but I know a rascal who, in a flash, could infect you with the Ardeche virus and open the doors to this veritable little nirvana.  Pascal Toral is his name. He’s a superb connoisseur of his terrain, but above all else, he’s a friend. Totally without pretension, Pascal is a vision to see as he jumps from rock to rock like a young goat, rod in hand, posing his fly with diabolical precision on the right artery of water. Even old trout, clever and experienced, allow themselves to be taken. He clearly knows every pebble in these rivers; from the alluvial plains to the mountain tops, he has explored it all and mastered every bit of it. And generous with it all… go and see his blog, it’s the real thing: http://ardechemouche.over-blog.com/ Everything that you ever wanted to know about the Ardeche: the best river for “opening” day, everything about the Espezonette, about the graylings of the Allier, about the “No-KIll” sections in the department, everything about the politics (more or less shitty) concerning the environment, everything about everything. Pascal, it’s quite simple, he knows everything. And more: he’s funny too. On top of that he cycles like Mr. Armstrong (not Louis) and Pascal can hang in there without drugs… maybe a couple of glasses of Pastis. A real pearl, my friend. So, this summer when passing by the gorges of the Ardeche, look up Toral. You’ll thank me later.
