Now this is for real Jerome have a mission ! Fight the mighty pike and test for real the Cross S1.

The field test : one day searching for pike on the fly. I’ve used it with one of my very favourite flyline for pike, a fast intermediate Airflo Forty Plus Sniper #10 with an extra-fast sinking 5ft polyleader. And with it, that’s just awesome : easy-casting, efficient, does not tire out and it has huge power in the backbone. You can cast no problem a 25cm tandem pike fly all day long, cast it 30m away fingers in the nose. With a more conventional 4/0 streamer, it’s like fishing a #14 pheasant tail. This confort is due to a soft tip-medium action. As Christer said many times, they’ve developed « rods to fish, not just rods to cast ». We can say that they achieved it, but we disagree on one thing : you will have a lot of fun casting with it !!

What about with a fish at the end ? Well, we can say that we’ve been lucky, because the two nice 86 and 96cm pikes (the poor guy has had a difficult love season) caught this day were a perfect test ! Moreover, they took the fly close to the snags, and they’ve made their best to get back in there. The result ? Imperial. Despite a powerful rush under the boat from the biggest fish, kept tight, the rod was not yet on its knees. The fish all went quickly to the boat, and that is really something we appreciate for those big and old fishs health. As a summary, a wonderful day fishing, with a beautifuly casting rod, that has been able to tame some very nice fish.

For pike, I’ve also tried the #8 weight, but it’s better to fish it only with small streamers. Just for fun, I’ve practiced a little bit of casting with a #9 weight rod, with no fly. And what a delite… that’s the same impression as her grand daughter, easy-casting, powerful, light, confortable.

The Cross S1 Flatsman series is undoubtly one the very best product we can find on the market today. Congratulations to Loop, that is some achievement !
