Last week-end, there was a huge fishing show in Clermont-Ferrand, in the Auvergne region where you can find some of the finest trout fishing in France. I was there with the guys from Rodhouse, and I’ve had the pleasure to meet some fine people. Among them, Fred Miessner and his gang from French Touch Fishing. Despite being lure fishermen beyond cure, these guys really rock. They embody what’s fresh and exciting in the new generation of fishermen who were born in big cities, are highly educated, and are inventing new ways to combine contemporary street culture and our passion for fishing.

They made a deal with a French firm, Bonnand, and issued a series of cool fishing boxes. I like the fact that they’re French made, and still sold at a mere 3-4 euros. A nice way to support local economy.

I particularly like the small model. Quite simple, neat Pantone-style color, color, and roughly the size of a pack of cigarettes. For this is one of the things I prefer about fly fishing : I put in a pocket a couple of leader bobins, in another pocket a clip, some Loon floatant, a pair of hemostats, slip a little fly box somewhere, grab my rod and I’m good to go. Fish light, fast and with style.
