Timo Kontio’s interview – Fly Tying Archive

As a dedicated fly tyer, I am always looking for the pearl, the Holy Grail for websites dedicated to the back-office of our passion. Internet has become an excellent place to learn flytying. But exciting videos are very rare…

And then, page after page, I have found Fly Tying Archive. A very good website, easy to read, where the first detail that catches the eye is the incredible collection of photos of flies all more beautiful than each other. I decided to contact his creator: Timo Kontio. He is Finnish and  is 29 years old. After a while, he agreed to answer my questions in an interview. Due to time constraints, we proceded by email. However, the first read validated my first impressions: this guy is amazing! His story fascinated me. I did not know any Finnish angler. I learned a lot, including why they were so good at making flies. Because yes, I realized that many great flytyers are from the Nordic countries. And as if the art of flytying was not enough, Timo Kontio is also an amazing photographer, making his passion even more beautiful work.
