We are very sorry and sad to hear the loss of Doug Tompkins. We all owe him some of our happiest days, Doug Tompkins, an excellent climber, surfer and mountaneer, created The North Face in 1968, and soon was to launch Esprit, which both became in their own world one pf the most important brands in the workd. Later, Doug married Kristine McDivitt, former CEO of Patagonia, Tompkins soon sold his shares from those two bradnds he created and dedicated his life to wildernest and mainly Chilean Patagonia, where he bought millions of acres to create conservation parks, he had a lot of support and a lot of locals were against it too. Nevertheless, thanks to him and his wife’s non profit organization, Conservacion Patagonica they managed to protect Chilean Patagonia, even if Chilean people were mostly unhappy not to be able to farm salmon and dig mines because of that. Doug had been a long time friend of Yvon Chouinard with whom he shared the love of great outdoors, Chouinard was with him when Tompkins capsized with his Kayak, they were all kayaking on lake Coyhaique, in Chile. Tompkins had given both to Chili and Argentina 12 National Parks.
