In her photography, Leila Alaoui celebrated those forgotten by society. Migrants, drifters, the homeless. She distinguished herself by at the same time having the critical eye of a documentarian  and the aesthetic eye of a fine artist. Her work was radiant. Beautiful. Haunting. Alaoui was on in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on assignment for Amnesty International when she died from injuries sustained during a terrorist attack launched by Aqmi. Look at her work. Her subjects are looking back at you. Looking back at Leila Alaoui, with a glowing sense of hope.
