Big Sur, on the ”One”, that winding road that goes along the coast from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Big Sur, home of the greatests like Henry MillerEdward WestonRichard BrautiganHunter S. ThompsonEmile Norman, and Jack Kerouac, we had to stay there. We stopped at the Nepenthe and it’s wooden houses in the trees, upstream from the famous Esalen Institute, where Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young played in 1969, from the heights you could see otters playing in the kelp. Down by the River, a must for opening day.
