There’s an unusual visual strength in this, even for a surf film. And the audio is often quite above anything else in the genre. Director Russell Brownley explains: it came up from a deep dive into Cousteau’s documentaries from the 60s. One doesn’t easily measure how baffling Cousteau’s work has been for the film world. Anyway, here’s 20 mins of tubes, pretty faces, and a couple of frankly sublime shots, to be watched with a Hemingway-style Daiquiri when the afternoons are hot.
