My first pair of Simms waders I bought in Livingstone, Mt, more than 20 years ago, I was proud like a kid with a new pair of shoes, I left behind my old neoprene ones which stank like rotten eggs and fish. This change had been for me, as for many of us, the beginning of a love story with Simms, of course as in many love stories there has been some mistakes, I bought cheap waders I use to throw away at the end of the season (I was fishing 100 days/year at the time), I got some chinese ones that were cooling down my privates as I wanted to stay dry, I bought some major brands waders, but at the end I always came back to Simms. I got myself a pair of G3, that had new socks for the price of shipping,  I also have a pair of Patagonia with woolen socks to keep my feet warm, but it’s my G4’s Im taking all around the world. I love my waders, they are part of me, I know when I’m wearing them everything is different. Even more know that I’ve been to Simms page The waders makersnow I feel that may waders have a soul, they are not just a pair of waders, they are waders made with love by people who are passionate, they are made by guys like me with ink and history, not by kids in a far away country!  But I’m going to tell you a little story, and if you work for Simms, I hope you’ll read it.

Last year I was speaking about fishing with the guys who import Simms in Europe and asking, when were they going to advertise in the press, and support the people who are talking about their gear all the time? Here’s his answer (I quote him): Why should we advertise while we get free advertisment on every river with the fishermen? I tried to explain to him that, it’s a circle, no matter if the press is printed or if it’s on the web, there is an economy system and you cannot always take and have things for free, you have to give back, to invest, who better than us can talk about the gear? Where do you read about a new pair of waders, where to you get a field test on a rod? So I looked at the guy and said to myself, you really are a schnorrer“… I tried to explain that our job with the amount of readers we have worlwide is to promote and test gear  what we beleive is the best but if there is no support from the industry we will just stop writing about major brands.  So I looked at the guy and thought: you really taking us for a ride? So today I’m writing about the love of a work well done, done with passion, for gear that is top notch, but if the brands are not playing fair game, we won’t play anymore. So enjoy those films, not sure you’ll see any other ones.
