Every fly tying session that we do is the same. We start by drinking some beers in the street in front of Alex’s appartment, talking about the shop where he works, our last fishing sessions, the fly fishing life in general.. Then, we get behind the vice, unpack our feathers and prepare our reels. Alex always puts on a vinyl of reggae from his collection and then, we can tie our flies according to the evening thematic. Sometimes we open a book to find inspiration. Alexandre’s bibles enthrone on a massive bookshelf. They are all the time full of new flies and new patterns for us. Sometimes written by Hugh Falkus, sometimes by Lefty Kreh.
That evening, it was “salmon flies” thematic. And it was Alex’s birthday.
