Today, rather than watching the falling rain wishing it got a little colder so it could snow, I dreamed of the Kola peninsula, the Atlantic Salmon, and wild landscapes. SSo to go forward on my quest for happiness, I started to look for the word Kola on the web, expecting films with wild rivers and fierce salmon. But under the name Kola, came Kola Beldy, I was curious to know what it was, and it was amazing, Kola Beldy is a russian singer from the 60’s 70’s, pride of the USSR, from the Hezhen or Nanais tribe. Those tribes are from the Far East of Russia: Siberia. They live on the shores of the Amour River and they raise cattle, reindeers. Let’s say it’s far, cold and exotic. Than I found two films that caught my interest, the first one, Naryan Mar is very USSR propaganda, you see Kola Beldy in his tribe, with the reindeers, the dogs, the snow, he’s wearing the local outfit, it’s as beautiful as Nanuk of the North or Derzu Uzala. In the second, Hanina Ranina, it’s more a music video, but I love the choregraphy on the shores of the Black Sea. Both films filled my heart with joy and I forgot about the salmon and the rain falling outside. I hope you’ll love them too. Hanina Ranina, I cannot get that song out of my head!
