It hit us in the face last weekend and we decided to pay tribute to Robbie Shakespear today. The bass player Robbie Shakespeare from Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare passed away and the whole reggae world is mourining, but not only, we are all. Maybe you are not aware but you’ve heard their rythm machine many times, Sly on the drums and Robbie on the bass, going like a train, tah dah dam, tah dah dam, tah dah dam... Jah love. Rest in Peace.

Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare, the pair that gave reggae rythm to the whole world, that very special reggae/dub rythm they brought to the pop/disco music of the 80’s. thanks to Chris Blackwell’s Compass Point studio in Bahamas. Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, The Rolling Stones, Grace Jones, Gilberto Gil, Joe Cocker, Serge Gainsbourg, Simply Red, Michael Franti, Sting, Khaled, Tricky, Carlos Santana, Sinead O’Connor, Ian Dury, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Takana Zion, or even New Order every big name in pop music called them for help. But their haeart is not in Nassau, Bahamas, they are from Jamaica and they’ve played with Skatalites, The Aggovators, Peter Tosh, Culture, U Roy , Peter Tosh, les Wailers, Bunny Wailer, Max Romeo, Prince Far I, The Mighty Diamonds, Gregory Isaacs, Prince Jammy, Dennis Brown, and  The Abyssinians.

And do’nt foget Grace Jones !

Since the 90’s they produced their mixed tapes, bands, under their own production: Taxi Gang.

Turn up the volume and blast the bass!
