Ça va me couter un bras non ?

So I bought that ticket for Manaus even though I didn’t have any kind of fishing tackle with me because of my harm, remember ? But Manaus bro’ ! Shall we have a Wiki pause ? Manaus is really far from everything, 4 hours from Sao Paulo and two hours of jet lag, but the forest, the peacock bass, the adventure, the dream..

In the rainy Sao Paulo’s madness inferno (11 millions of people !) I was about to buy a baitcasting set because no way to go in peacock bass’s mecca without any kind of fishing tackle.. Am I right ? But I had to ask my only brazilian fly fishing friend : the maestro Betino if he had any ideas how to get in touch with fly fishing tackle.

Betinho that I met back in march 2011 in Brazil, another other example of Living the dream as its best. He use to be this king of finance who finally decide to go fishing instead of loosing his time in an office ! Now if he is not in Argentina to fish dourado, he is probably in Chile guiding some brazilians fly fishing enthusiast for salmon, you will see him on television as soon as they need someone to talk about our favorite sport and open any brazilian fishing magazine to witness him in some remote spots… But today Betino is sharing a good argentinian Malbec wine in his kitchen while cooking for me.

While I was relishing with goosebumps Betino’s pineapple & beer sauce that he just invented in a creative impulse, I couldn’t escape to ask him with creeps : Would you have any tips where I can find fly fishing tackle without ruining myself ? The man looks at me and says : Don’t worry son ! I will find you some rods and stuff and you will pay the baits. I looked at my empty glass, grabbed it and lift my arm to shout : Beleza !

Then an hour later I was out on the street again, looking at the grey sky of Sao Paulo rainy summer with a big smile on my face. I didn’t know yet when and where in Amazonas I will use them but I have a line 10 rod and some crazy flies that I had witnessed last time already (sure they would work on our european sea bass !). Thank you Betino ! Amazonian peacock bass make your prayer, here I come ! Loaded.

Betino’s PS : Yes Jim Harrison and Richard Brautigan’s books are translated in portuguese ! Some of them..
