THE FISH-MONGER.

At that moment I thought that it was time to intercede and addressing the young salesgirl: “What a horrible image we are giving to these children! We cherish liberty, to which we all have a right, but we refuse it to these poor crabs. How sad!”

“You’re absolutely right sir” replied the salesgirl. “It’s absolutely true that these poor animals are going to die and it makes me very sad. Everyday it’s the same thing, every day when I come to work in this store, my heart bleeds to think about all of these murders to which I am a silent witness. These crabs deserve better. But you can be sure, sir, that one day we will pay for our cowardice!”

At that the fishmonger wiped away a furtive tear and I thought that it was time for me to move on, maybe to go and advocate for the defense of cauliflowers and other rutabagas.
