The first time I heard about Montana (except in cow-boy films) was in one of James Crumley’s novel The Last Good Kiss, then I started reading every author that would send me there, Jim Harrison, Rick Bass, Richard Brautigan, Richard Hugo, Thomas McGuane, Dan O’Brien, John D. Voelker, Richard Ford, Norman Maclean…all of them fullfilled my needs of the Big Sky dreams. But one day I had to go ! I was visiting my sister in California when she told me she had a friend who was looking for a driver to help her with her removal to Montana University in Bozeman. Done deal ! I would drive and more if needed… The closer we would get to our goal, the more excited I was… then in Bozeman the first thing I did was to buy a wader (an old thick Streamline), a pair of boots and a selection of flies. I was only traveling with a tooth brush, a couple of shirts, 2 boxers, various socks and a rod… We drove to Livingstone. The river was too big, the water too cold, the trouts too shy and me to much of a beginner… It’s only a few years later that I would get to fish seriously in Montana, and… what a joy ! I always dream to go back.

On a conduit jusqu’à Livingstone.
