I love 2.0 fly patterns. When years of streamlining by pro tiers and other hurried and demanding people at the vice took everything unnecessary out of the tying process. The results are often so simple one could believe it’s how it’s always been done. That’s deceptive: simplicity, in fly tying like everywhere else, is what you achieve at the very end.

My favorite 2.0 pattern is DHE 2.0 by Hans Weilenmann, an upgrade on Bob Wyatt’s already terribly minimal emerger. But this week, the guys from TightLines came up with a video about a little beetle with a twist on legs tying that deserves to be watched, even if you’ve already tied bucketfulls of such. Thank you guys for making everyone’s life simpler!
