The opening day of pike fishing is in less than 15 days!!! We’ve prepared a series of article to start the 2013 predator fishing season. And it starts right here, right now, with the Fuzzy fiber!

The Fuzzy Fiber is a synthetic fiber close to the famous EP Fiber from Enrico Puglisi. Like the EP, it has the particularity to sink easily, and not retain the water, which make it a very easy-to-cast material. It is more curly, less straight. It makes is interesting to give some volume to the flies.

It is typically possible to tie baitfishs patterns with it, like this one. Nevertheless, do not wait too much movement from this fiber. It is stiff, so it’s better to use it keeping this in mind. We can tie stiff patterns, that will well react to vigorous strips, or, in the contrary, to minimalist retrieving where the only goal will be imitating a small fish hoping for discretion and not being seen… it is greatly efficient for picky fish.

I use it a lot to make big bulky heads, notably on big tandem patterns. For this type of application, I find it easier to tie than EP. You can reshape it easily, a little bit like sheep hair. But it’s much lighter to cast.

Use it also as an under-wing to give some volume to a pattern, it is great for this!!
