When we buy a flyrod as a present for somebody, unless we already know exactly what this person wants, we always take the risk that the rod will not suit the fisherman. With reels, it is not the same ; with the exception of the reels for the tuna hunters, most of the high end reels do a perfect job for what we do 99% of the time. So why not choosing the most beautiful one? I’m totally in love with my Loop Opti reels, the DryFly for the 5-weight, the Runner for 7 to 9 weight, and last but not least, the truely gorgeous Speedrunner for flylines up to 10-11, absolutely perfect for pike and two handed rods. I melt down every town I look at them… And compared with a rod, a fly reel is a gift that will last long. And an Opti Reel is a really, really beautiful gift.
