The end of the week is here. I asked Google this morning “is it friday?” and he said “yep“. So yeah it is Friday. And this weekend, I’m going to go fishing with my friend Alexandre (the guy in the estuary). Anyway, still no one knows what to do! Trout ? Yeah, the mayflies are there right now. Seabass? Tides are important but seeking  for the right spot, we can really fish well. Shad? I’m not even sure they’re still here. All that to say that I love this time of the year because you can do anything! Fish wake up everywhere! Now he will have to choose … Before a new episode of The Flytying Minute! And this week, it will be about salmon flies. I’ve always loved these beautiful flies. So here’s a selection of videos that highlight the side of both traditional and modern assembly.

Tying the Cragganmore Killer (Salmon Fly) with Davie McPhail

Davie has a knack for giving us very explicit videos of these flies. Classic videos tell more finicky, but very educational. Well here we see the mix of old and new. The noblest natural fibers to the most “flash” synthetic fibers.

How to tie a Lady Caroline Spey Salmon fly

Timo Kontio is for me one of the best flytyers of his generation that publish on the internet his work . The video below explains the steps of a speyfly: The Lady Caroline. A beautifully rendered and perfectly edited video. Finely selected music (thank you for the discovery of Johnny Flynn ) that provide an excellent atmosphere. It’s all good M Kontio!

Jock Scott

When I read these words, I get mad. Jock Scott is in my eyes THE classic salmon fly. In fact it is even really the most famous salmon fly. I can leave carefree the day that I could tie one (perfectly tied …). A mix of colors in the wings and a specific body to the millimeter! And finding a video editing on the fly is not easy. Luckily I found the one that follows!
